Today I posted a Tweet on Twitter about the phases of gardening.  I have been running a string of themes this week all week long on those phases!  Today’s Tweet -

The only way you can bring in the harvest in the fall is to plant in the spring, and to cultivate, water, weed and fertilize in the summer

Todays’s focus today was on… fertilizing !  This year and this summer has been a real reminder of the persistence and patience one must have in building a home based business. Working with many new entrepreneurs – We are always reminding and encouraging them about constantly planting the seeds and taking care of their prospects.

And as I was planting a second crop of some herbs and flowers for late summer amd early fall I really was reminded how planting and sowing seeds continues through the year. And proper timing of planting to ensure a harvest and/or bloom before the frost.

July was a very focused month on communicating with our visitors via email, custom videos and one of my favorite tools Twitter.  The beauty is you even get some early harvest along the way! Check back in this weekend we will be talking about harvesting!

Doing the right things

27 05 2009

Earlier today I was reading and thinking on a quote I posted to Twitter.  It was from Arnold Glasgow:

Success is simple. Do what’s right, the right way, at the right time  (for the right reasons – my add)

I do love the simplicity in that statement.  And yet it really brought up some old thoughts and challenges I faced in my prior business roles.  There were many times I thought about the comparison of a manager and leader made by Warren Bennis and Bert Nanus in their book Leaders: Their Strategies for Taking Charge.

“Managers do things right, leaders do the right things.”

The struggle I have is in looking at that statement literally. It has GREAT meaning when you dissect it.  Managers must have skill sets in doing things right – excellently!  Leaders must have skills of selecting the vision, articulating it and keeping focused on it.  I preferred to take the interpretation of inclusiveness – in a large company you can have great managers with those manager skill sets and great leaders with leader skill sets.  In an age of specialization – many people had one set without the other.   Discussions many a time settled on how they were exclusive roles… you either were a great manager OR a great leader.  I always took offense with this and still do – even though I value and agree with the pieces of it.   Gosh I can’t count the times when in C-Level meetings and discussions there was always somebody using this quote — many times it seemed it was almost a side-handed complement to a good manager in our organization.  One who worked tirelessly – was an excellent process manager – a real pro at how things were done right.  Usually the flip side was someone had an issue with the manager’s leadership skills or people skills.

For me – for true lasting success – this is not an either or option – It is not about being either a leader or manager.  The Glasgow quote above really drove it home clearly for me again today for my own business.   As a home business entrepreneur who must wear many hats it is neither an Either-Or situation nor a select one of three option.  It is an all three proposition.  For lasting success – for increasing results over time you must:

Do the right things in the right way and at the right time.

This has great relevance too – to my earlier posting on The Top 5 Things For A Business Owner.  That post is about identifying the top 5 things (the right things).  Take a look and then take it to the next level — for success to really grow for the home business entrepreneur, you must also do those things right AND at the right time.  It is the what, the how and the when of business success – when you throw in the why and give it all true meaning for your own self – you have the perfect success recipe simply stated.

If you are a home business entrepreneur and are struggling in this economy with your products or business model. I invite you to look closely at our model – It is setting growth records in this global economic crisis.  This success is not based upon delivering a service or product because of the pain of a global economic meltdown but rather because it shows a clear path of financial empowerment.

I Have A Dream – Do You?

26 05 2009

Love This Quote From Tony Robbins

“A dream, backed by an unrelenting will to attain it, is truly a reality with an imminent arrival”

You’re in the midst of a war: a battle between the limits of a crowd seeking the surrender of your dreams, and the power of your true vision to create and contribute. It is a fight between those who will tell you what you cannot do, and that part of you that knows / and has always known / that we are more than our environment; and that a dream, backed by an unrelenting will to attain it, is truly a reality with an imminent arrival

Arete and The Art Of Living

24 05 2009

A Quote that embodies the concept of Living With Arete

The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion.  He hardly knows which is which.  He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing.  To him he’s always doing both.
James Michener

Excellence at what ever you do! Outstanding example of Living With Arete

Special Quote For The Day – Wisdom

18 05 2009

Inspirational Quote

Focus Word – Wisdom

Most of you know me on Twitter that I enjoy tweeting and sharing inspirational quotes. Some of my favorite quotes I can’ty fit in a 140 character tweet – so i will be posting those longer quotes here and ocasionally a special quote of the day and why.

Today’s special category quote is on today’s word – Wisdom. The quote was one of my mother’s favorites and I post it today in memory and love for her.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

The quote is attributed to Reinhold Niebuhr;  an American theologian who lived from 1892-1971

There are so many wonderful memories I have of my mom growing up – that when she was concerned – upset or just having a bad day – how often she would recite this wonderful saying.  It always seemed to give her strength and at the same time a sense of peace.
